"Me Not a Baby."

Let's start at the beginning....

Remember back when Garrett was only 18 months, he decided to climb out of his crib.
This is when we had to convert his crib into a toddler bed.
{Looking back at the blog post with these pictures just made my eyes fill with tears.  He has grown so much! Here is the link to that post:  He may be our 2nd, but that doesn't make it any easier}
Anyways - as I learned back then, Garrett would do things Jackson never thought about doing because Garrett had a big brother to learn from.  Several months ago when we were living with my parents and the boys were sharing a room, Garrett would take naps in his bed.  However, at night, if him and Jackson were not sleeping together, Garrett would often sleep on the floor between their beds.  We just thought it was because that was the closest he could get to Jackson without actually getting into Jackson's bed.

When we moved, the boys really did well and didn't have a problem going back to separate rooms.  Lately however, Garrett does not like to lay in his bed.  Sometimes he will, but most of the time he wants to be on his floor.  One night he actually fell asleep laying on his monkey chair.  I felt so bad for him!

The other night as he was laying on his floor, he was in one of his sweet little moods, so I asked him about it.  He said, "I don't like my bed.  Me not a baby.  Me a big boy!"  I said, "Garrett, I know you are a big boy.  You have a big boy bed!  If you were a baby, you would sleep in a crib like baby Savannah does."  He said, "My bed is baby bed."  At that point, I just loved on him, let him sleep where he wanted to in his room, and later that night before I went to bed, I moved him into his bed.

He knows his bed is different than Jackson's twin bed and he probably doesn't even remember his toddler bed being a crib.  When we converted Jackson's crib to a toddler bed, Jackson was 2 years and 4 months....
Garrett is only 2 years and 3 months right now (One month YOUNGER than Jackson was) and has been in a toddler bed for 9 months.  Garrett doesn't remember a big exciting day of becoming a big boy and graduating from his crib to a toddler bed.  His toddler bed is the only thing he knows.

Aaron and I were tired of seeing him sleep on his floor, so we bought him a new twin bed today!  It is expected to arrive around July 1st!

SO.....Garrett's crib and mattress are FOR SALE.  I love his crib and it is in great condition.  It actually converts to a full size bed as well.  It is the Madison crib from Pottery Barn Kids.  E-mail me at jordan8082@sbcglobal.net if you are interested!

I really cannot believe Garrett will be in a real big boy bed.  At one point we had more cribs in our house than we did beds, and now we won't have any cribs.  It is kind of bittersweet because Aaron and I still feel like Garrett will be our last.  At times, Garrett still seems like a baby to me, but I guess it may always feel like that because he is supposed to be "the baby."

A, B, C, D, E, F, G.......

We have known for a while now that Garrett's favorite part of the alphabet was E-F-G! That's what he calls all letters - "E-F-G! E-F-G!" However, the other day we were all in the car and Garrett just started singing his whole ABCs. Aaron and I looked at each other like "Did you know he could do that?"

One thing I have learned that is different about the 2nd child, is that with your first child you know EXACTLY when they are supposed to know or do everything. If they are not balancing on one foot for 6 seconds by the age of ____, call the doctor. If they are not saying more than 52 words by the age of ____, call the doctor. Okay, clearly I made those examples up, but you get my point. With your first child you know "THE TIMELINE." With your 2nd child, you're a little more laid back. You're not as obsessed with "THE TIMELINE" and you can just look at your child and say "ohhhhh.....he's fine! Right on track!"

So....it's moments like this with Garrett that I realize "Oh!!!! Oops!! You probably should know your ABCs by now! ......or wait, does this make you advanced? Or should you have known your ABCs 6 months ago?" Heck.....poor baby, maybe he did know his ABCs 6 months ago and I just didn't know that he did!?!?!

Here is a video of Garrett singing his ABCs. It's not the best video of the actual ABCs because he is trying to see himself in the camera, but I thought that part was funny and worth sharing. In the background is Jackson and I laughing. Sorry if it makes you dizzy!

Airplane!

I did bring my flip video camera to Florida, but I didn’t put fresh batteries in before leaving.

They did sell batteries in Florida, but I didn’t remember to buy any when we were out and about.

I did get a few videos, but I didn’t get many….

Enjoy!  (Yes, we went to Florida over a month ago, but it was only recently I finally got around to replacing the batteries)

**I was trying to keep Garrett calm so he would go to sleep, which is why you don’t see action from him.**

Remember my bald little baby boy?

That bald little baby got his first hair cut today. (I know, I know....take a moment and grab a Kleenex....)

I ONLY had her trim the edges (neck, around ears....) so the actual length on the top and sides is still the same. He does look more like a little boy now and less of a baby, but I don't think it is too drastic.

Garrett did really good! We went to a place in Rockwall. We were the only people there at the time, so it was very calm and more pleasant than Jackson's first haircut. Since I didn't want much taken off, it took less than 10 minutes.

I am posting a lot of pictures, but why not?! It's his first hair cut!!

Garrett looking at Jackson probably wondering if he can help get him out of this situation -

Getting hair sprayed with water -

He actually didn't give me very many "moments" to capture. He was very laid back. Not much expression -

Look at this face! Ha! "Ummmm....what are you doing to me?!"

He's had enough. At this point he is TRYING so hard to hold back the tears.

And....he's done!....but the hair cut isn't!

Poor guy! He tried so hard to fight those tears.

"Mama! Mama! Mama!"

I showed him a DVD case with a picture of Barney on it and he gained control.

"Nar-ney, Nar-ney!!"

(I am glad this chick wasn't coloring my child's hair. Yikes!)

Look at that brave boy letting her finish!

I wasn't able to take an after picture, because once I picked him up he would not let me put him back down to get a picture....(and I am not smart enough to think to hand the camera to Aaron - Hello!? Why don't I use my brain!?)

We met Randy and Dianne for dinner and I did quickly take one picture of him at the restaurant, but it is nothing great. We got home late tonight, so the boys went straight to bed. I will take some tomorrow!
